Goalie’s sister to get muddy in his memory

-

The sister of a teenage goalkeeper who sadly lost his battle with cancer is pulling on her running shoes to help keep his memory alive.

Popular Stephen Roy, from Paisley, was aged just 18 when he passed away last year, but his big sister Nicola is determined to keep his legacy alive by raising cash for Cancer Research UK.

The 23-year-old housing association worker will take on the Pretty Muddy Glasgow 5k challenge on September 16 in a touching tribute to Stephen.

The Glenvale under-19s player had been diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2015.

He had surgery to remove the tumour and chemotherapy, but he suffered a massive cardiac arrest while helping coach kids at the Harmony Row playing fields in Glasgow.

Former St Mirren stopper John Hillcoat and a parent, Richard Nyguist, performed CPR on Stephen, before paramedics rushed him to hospital.

Stephen, who lived in Anchor Mills with his parents Helen and Ian, and Nicola, made a remarkable recovery.

However, in May last he was given the devastating news that the cancer had returned and spread through his bowel and liver.

He passed away on July 10 last year, but his family are determined to keep his spirit alive.
