Cafuffals staff go all out as they raise funds for charity

- Colette Crampsey

Big-hearted bar staff have been gunged, pied and waxed all in the name of charity.

Workers at Paisley pub Cafuffals have been busy hosting a string of wacky events to raise funds for Make A Wish foundation.

Since the start of the month, each employee has bravely tackled an individual challenge, asking members of the public and regular punters to sponsor them for their efforts.

A barmaid had cream pies thrown at her, while another had to come to work wearing outrageous make-up.

As for the boys, one staff member came to work dressed as a girl, and one had his legs waxed.

The charity grants wishes to children and young people fighting life threatening illnesses.

Bar manager Chantelle Spence, 26, was behind the charity mission.

She explained: “It’s the first time we have done charity work at Cafuffals and we have had such a great response.

“Customers and staff decided that Make A Wish, which is based in Abbey Mill Business Centre, was a great choice, as we wanted to do something for a charity which helps children.

“It’s been a great laugh doing the tasks and the staff have been really excited about it all. They look forward to coming in to work and seeing what challenge is next.”

Chantelle asked each member of staff to try to raise £100 for Make A Wish.

The management team — herself and assistant manager Rebecca O’Donnell — is to raise £200.

One member of staff, Donna Marshall, exceeded her £ 100 target by raising £260 for being gunged in the middle of New Street.

The gunge consisted of eggs, paint, rice pudding and many other ingredients, creating a disgusting concoction.

With 11 members of staff on board and a lot of friends and family showing their support, the Cafuffals team is well on its way to hitting the £1,300 target.

Chantelle added: “Our customers have been very supportive. Every single regular at the bar has donated, whether it be £2 or £20, and every penny makes a difference.

“We’ve also had a lot of new faces at the bar who have come along to see what’s going on and show some support, which has been great.

“The people of Paisley tend to show support to anyone who is trying to better the community. They are very supportive people, even more so since the launch of the City of Culture 2021 bid.”

Cafuffals has many more charity events planned, ending with a bingo night in the bar on Wednesday, August 2.
