MP Gavin welcomes smart meter move
Gavin Newlands MP is calling on residents to make sure they’re energy smart this summer.
New data from Scottish Gas shows almost 8,000 homes in Mr Newland’s Paisley and Renfrewshire North constituency now have smart meters installed.
All homes in Britain are being offered smart meters by 2020 as part of a government initiative. The meters come with a monitor which shows how much energy is being used and what it is costing. By seeing how much energy is being used, residents can take control and potentially save on their bills.
Gavin Newlands MP said:“Technology is playing a big role in changing the way we live in our homes and our communities.
“Smart meters put people in control of their energy and that’s why it’s positive to hear that many homes in Paisley and Renfrewshire North have already embraced smart meters. I’d encourage local residents to find out more about the benefits of this technology.”
Scottish Gas smart energy expert, Chris Crockard said:“Small changes, like not leaving appliances on standby or unplugging mobiles once fully charged, can save energy. Even cutting down on your morning shower by a minute and fitting a water-efficient shower head could help too.”
