New opera company is seeking singers
Your chance to audition for Donizetti masterpiece
Have you got what it takes to perform with a newly- started opera company?
If so, you could take part in a production of Donizetti’s comic masterpiece L’Elisir d’Amore – and in the original language too.
Paisley company Opera Bamba is looking for both young and experienced singers to audition for parts in this tale of a love potion that sets the cat among the pigeons for a group of villagers.
“This timeless opera is a great platform for young and experienced singers alike and provides any audience with a mix of relatable scenarios, comedy, well-known tunes and those operatic mainstays, the love triangle and fairy tale,” the company’s website says.
Opera Bamba, which describes itself as a semi- professional company – was set up by student Mathew Oliver in 2016.
Its aim is to bring opera to Paisley and the surrounding area, and is hoping to play a part in the town’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2021.
Mathew wants to give emerging singers and production crew the chance to work in a professional environment and the opportunity to perform full-length operas on stage.
The company’s website adds there are many routes and ways in which Opera Bamba is hoping to develop and grow, particularly in encouraging the involvement of the next generation in opera and the performing arts in general.
Opera Bamba also wants to set up outreach projects and collaborations with other local arts groups.
L’Elisir d’Amore will be staged in Paisley in November and anyone who would like eto be part of the production should send an email to info@operabamba. co.uk with their name, voice type, email address and phone number, along with a couple of lines about why you would like to join the production.
Opera Bamba will contact people with an audition time, venue and what you will need to prepare for the audition.
The company is also casting understudies for Elisir and says its are also able to provide other performance opportunities.
Video auditions will be considered at the discretion of the audition panel, Opera Bamba’s website adds.
