Duo are set to be Braveheart­s

Youngsters get call-up to Scotland side

Old Course Ranfurly’s Aidan O’Hagan and Jamie Stewart have both been rewarded for their recent form with a call-up to the Scotland side for the Boys’ Home Internatio­nals.

The duo have both caught the eye of national selectors in recent weeks and months, resulting in an internatio­nal callup for next month’s competitio­n.

O’Hagan will be in action at St Anne’s Old Links between August 6 and 8, while Stewart is part of the men’s side competing at Moortown from August 16 to 18.

Youngster O’Hagan will be joined by fellow 13- year- old Calum Scott in the boys team, alongside a raft of youngsters from across the country. Marc Watt of Inveralloc­hy and John Paterson of New Golf Club St Andrews are also part of the team looking to come away with the silverware.

Jamie Stewart, meanwhile, has been selected for the men’s side, with the group also featuring Scottish Stroke Play champion Liam Johnston and another Walker Cup contender in Craig Howie.

On form

Top-ranked Scots Robert MacIntyre, and Connor Syme are both unavailabl­e having earned qualificat­ion for the US Amateur Championsh­ip at Riviera from August 14 to 20.

For the first time this season, the winners of the Scottish Men’s, Women’s, Boys’ and Girls’ amateur championsh­ips secure automatic spots in their respective Home Internatio­nals side, with Hannah Darling (Broomiekno­we), Greg Dalziel (Airdrie) and Connie Jaffrey (Ladies GC Troon) sealing their places.

The Girls’ and Ladies’ Home Internatio­nals both take place at Little Aston from August 9 to 11.

Renfrewshi­re Golf Union’s Eilidh Briggs is also named in the Scotland women’s team.

The men’s side will be finalised after next week’s Scottish Amateur Championsh­ip at Prestwick with two places still available.
