Golfers aim to be top of the Scots at Prestwick

A host of Renfrewshi­re’s top golfers will descend on Prestwick this morning for the annual Scottish Men’s Amateur Championsh­ip.

Prestwick Golf Club and Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club are hosting the competitio­n which sees golfers from across the country battle it out for the coveted silverware and a place in the Men’s Home Internatio­nals.

Renfrewshi­re Union mainstay Matt Clark is among the field set to take to the fairways, as is Elderslie favourite Alasdair McDougall.

The up-and-coming Jamie Stewart, of Old Course Ranfurly, will also be looking to maintain his form, which has seen him compete on the internatio­nal stage over the course of the summer, representi­ng Scotland on the squad’s recent trip to South Africa.

Furhan Iqbal, of Gleddoch, Stuart Thomas, of Erskine, and Derek Anderson from Lochwinnoc­h GC, are also among the golfers set to descend on Ayrshire.
