Double delight Penalty miss can’t take the shine off Reilly’s twogoal show

- Craig Ritchie

Gavin Reilly insists he won’t let the disappointment of not netting a hat- trick get him down as he focuses on firing St Mirren up the league.

The former Queen of the South man notched a double in the weekend win over Airdrie but missed a penalty in the process which could have seen him hit three.

However, with the Buddies now looking ahead to Saturday’s Championship curtain- raiser against Falkirk, Reilly says he is just focused on the league now.

He said: “I am happy with the two goals. It could have been three but I’ll just have to forget about the penalty. I have hit better penalties than that.

“But the Falkirk game is the one you want to play in. There will be a big crowd with a great atmosphere. We laid down a marker against Airdrie so hopefully we can take that into next Saturday.”

The Buddies hammered five past Airdrie at the weekend, putting to bed criticism of the side from their previous display when they were on the end of their own 5-0 drubbing at Partick.

Reilly added: “After last week it was good to get back to winning ways, and to win convincingly. It was good to get the Partick game out of our system and build up for the Falkirk game next Saturday.

“There were two ways to look at the Airdrie game. We could have looked at it as a nothing game, but you go into every game wanting to get something out of it.

“I personally wanted to get some goals. And because of that I was delighted to get the win. Last Saturday was very frustrating because we let a lot of people down.”
