Proud of refugees’ welcome

-

I noted with great interest that figures released last week showed that Scotland has welcomed more than a quarter of the total number of Syrian Refugees who have arrived in the UK.

Several of them have been placed in Renfrewshire and I have had the great pleasure of meeting many of them.

What has happened to the people in Syria in recent years I was delighted to hear that the Supreme Court ruled employment tribunal fees unlawful last week.

When these fees were introduced by the Tory/Lib Dem coalition in 2013, SNP MPs were strongly opposed to them, and the SNP Scottish Government committed truly is a tragedy and it is a great source of pride that they have been welcomed here in Renfrewshire with such open arms.

In a world that seems to be becoming more and more insular and isolationist, with Donald Trump’s Muslim ban being a prime example, it is testament to the character of the people of Renfrewshire that we resist that tide.

Great news about tribunal fees

to abolishing them when the powers over the administration of employment tribunals were devolved later in this parliament.

The fees were introduced purely to make it more difficult for workers to insist on fair treatment and it is great news that they will be stopped.
