Since SMISA took charge
board is fantastic and something that we pledged to do when we ran the campaign.
“I think it looks great and it is amazing to see fellow supporters taking time out before the game to find their names. It is good to mark the work put in by the supporters to complete the buyout. It just brightens up the stadium as well.
“Jim Cumming has also organised various stadium clean-ups to make sure the ground is looking fantastic. They have cleaned every seat in the stadium, which probably hadn’t done for years.”
But despite all the positives, Nicol admits things could have got off to a smoother start.
For a supporter on the board, the sacking of Alex Rae in September last year thrust Nicol into the midst of helping to appoint a new manager.
Although something that many supporters dream of having a say in, Nicol admits it isn’t as easy and rosy as it may seem.
But having arrived at the decision to bring in Jack Ross as gaffer, he insists the future is bright for the club heading into the new season.
He added: “I’ve learned a lot. Football is a very complicated business.
“Looking back, it is easy to sit as a supporter myself and complain, but the complications and the difficulty of things on the football side were an eye-opener.
“We don’t get incredibly involved in the football side of things, that’s down to the manager and Tony Fitzpatrick, and we let them get on with it.
“It’s not Championship Manager, it is a lot more complicated than that.
“It wasn’t enjoyable to be in the situation of looking for a new manager so early on, but we were keen to have stability.
“It soon became clear that this was something we really had to do.
“It was interesting to be involved in that, sifting through the applications and debating as a board as to how we saw this working.
“We had been through around five managers in 18 months, so we knew we couldn’t go for a short-term fix.
“I’m delighted we have got that stability with Jack
“He is a fantastic manager and I’m sure he will go on to big things in football.”
