On the road to glory

Series B action kicks off for Velo cyclists

- Craig Ritchie

Paisley Velo were on the clock as the club’s Series B Time Trial action got underway on Tuesday night.

The club riders were out in force on a windy, but dry, evening on the Georgetown Road course.

And, despite only being on week one, the competition is already starting to hot up, with a gap of just two seconds between the two fastest riders.

Don Smith got off to a strong start as he clocked a personal best time of 16.45, while Garry Rankin also drastically improved on his time from Series A, on his new bike, knocking nearly three minutes off his previous best.

The winners of Series A — Sam McGrath and Colin Sales — both clocked times close to their personal bests and confidence is high that new PBs will be recorded in the weeks to come.

It is all to play for in the coming weeks. And, in the same way as the football league, the club will soon be splitting riders into two groups to keep things competitive.

Full results, in order of fastest rider first: 16:43 Ian McDermott, 16: 45 Don Smith, 17: 23 Sam McGrath, 18:34 Garry Rankin, 18:45 Colin Sales, 19:07 Simon Arnold, 19:25 Greg Hiddleston, 19:26 Ciaran Kirkpatrick, 19: 59 Mark Logan, 22:17 Andrew McLeod.

Ryan Kinnaird also took part as a guest rider, putting in a respectable time of 17:22.

Paisley Velo are already looking forward to next Tuesdays’s race. Spectators and photographers welcome at any point along the Georgetown Road.
