No time for old pals’ act

Return of Rory Loy won’t distract Buddies, pledges midfield ace

- Craig Ritchie

Cammy Smith insists St Mirren will be solely focused on themselves this weekend, instead of worrying about former teammate Rory Loy.

Loy is set to return to the Paisley 2021 Stadium for the first time since the end of his loan deal from Dundee last season.

Having signed for new club Falkirk over the course of the summer, the Bairns and the Buddies will go head to head in the Championship curtain raiser this Saturday.

However, Buddies midfielder Smith insists his side can’t afford to solely pin their attentions on the forward as they look to get their promotion challenge started with a win over Falkirk.

Smith said: “When Falkirk come here on Saturday, it will be a really good first game of the season.

“We will be two teams both thinking we want to end up at the right end of the table.

“It will be a hard game and there will be no question about that.

“Rory will obviously be coming back to the ground after his loan spell and he will be looking to do well for his new team.

“But that isn’t our concern, we just need to focus upon ourselves, if we are going to produce the sort of performance the manager expects.

“We have got to aim high, so the aim has to be promotion.

“It is going to be a tight league and we know there are other good teams and other good players in it.

“But with the team and squad we have got, all in all, we have to be aiming high.”
