Paisley Philosophical Institution will open its 205th session in September.

One of the titans of the town’s cultural and educational scene, the PPI puts on lecturers, and provides speakers and other resources to develop the knowledge and experience of its membership.

It also encourages and promotes participation in what it does.

And with that in mind, the PPI is inviting people to go along to its meeting place of Paisley Museum during this autumn’s Doors Open days and find out more about what it does.

The talks, held in the Paisley Museum lecture hall from September to March, cover a wide range of topics in a bid appeal to a wide range of interests and age groups.

The PPI, which has around 40 members, says the talks are always interesting and stimulating at a general level and often very entertaining.

Coming up in the new session will be talks on subjects as diverse as black artists, poet Robert Tannahill, ornithologist and artist Alexander Wilson, and even recreational drug use.

PPI hopes to play a part in Paisley’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2021, which is headed by Jean Cameron.

A session’s lectures cost £15, and you can attend individual talks for £3.
