Auditions to be held to find eight budding superstars

- Colette Crampsey

Young starlets are counting on lady luck to be in with the chance of performing in Las Vegas.

Renfrewshire youths have been given the once- in- a- lifetime opportunity to perform in the entertainment capital of the world.

Cat Clark, 27, owner and artistic director of Sparkle and Shine Entertainment Team, is looking for eight talented young people to take part in a fantastic showcase halfway across the globe.

The successful auditionees will hit the stage next spring and dazzle audiences in a burst of song and dance on the famous Las Vegas strip.

Cat, from Johnstone, will be holding auditions on September 3 inside Fit for Less gym in Linwood.

She told: “I’m on the lookout for new talent.

“Auditionees don’t need to have had training or previous experience, but must have a strong voice and dance ability.

“It ’ s a once- in- a- lifetime opportunity and an amazing experience for budding stars.”

Auditions run from 3pm until 5pm and are open to young people aged 10 to 16 with a passion for performance.

Cat explained: “Candidates must be prepared to sing solo on the day, preferably a musical theatre song, and bring a backing track for it on a CD or phone.

“Following the solo audition, there will be a group dance workshop.

“I’m looking for people who stand out and catch my eye.”

The opportunity to perform in Vegas comes as part of a competition run by Smile Productions in Liverpool.

Six dance schools from across the UK were chosen to embark on the trip, with Sparkle and Shine being the only Scottish company to make the cut.

Cat’s chosen eight will jet to America in May, accompanied by a parent or guardian, and begin three days of rehearsals in preparation for the grand performance.

The extravaganza of song, dance and musical theatre will take place inside the Tommy Wind Theatre in the heart of the main strip.

To help with the cost of the trip, Cat will launch a fundraising drive.

“It’s an amazing experience that many local kids wouldn’t otherwise get,” Cat said.

“It will open up doors for young performers and hopefully inspire them to pursue their dreams.”

Cat, who trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, in Glasgow, has been passionate about music, dance and drama from a young age.

She launched Sparkle and Shine Entertainment Team last year and teaches youngsters from pre-school to 18 years of age.

Explaining the ethos of her company, she added: “It’s all about bringing the best out of kids, having fun and letting them shine and that’s just what we plan to do in Vegas.”
