Bus thug chucked off coach tried to headbutt cop

Yob pays the price for lashing out at police officer

- Chris Taylor

A yob tried to headbutt a cop after he was hauled off a bus.

Ryan Taylor, 29, was dragged staggering from the coach by two officers and immediately restrained.

But he slumped to the floor, before lashing out at PC Darren Conn after he tried to help him to his feet.

The thug pled guilty to assaulting the policeman in the line of duty when his case was called at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Frank Clarke played CCTV footage showing Taylor stumbling around before repeatedly kicking out.

He said: “A picture paints a thousands words.

“Police officers were taking him off the bus.

“It was not a fainting fit when he fell to the ground.”

The video showed Taylor appearing to argue aggressively with the officers as they handcuffed him.

It captured the moment he tumbled over and was unable to get up.

Kicks can then be seen aimed at PC Conn’s chest as he tries to help, before Taylor lunges and tries to strike him with his head, before falling again.

The brute spent 74 days in custody for losing the plot in Renfrew’s Paisley Road around 9pm on May 7.

Before the case was called, Taylor was ejected from the courtroom for falling asleep in the public area and then arguing with another policeman.

Defence lawyer Eamonn McGeehan was unable to provide any excuse for his client’s behaviour.

The court was told Taylor, of Abercorn Street, Paisley, has also been convicted of a separate offence in the region.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew deferred sentence for both to call at the same time.

He said: “This is a classic case of resisting arrest.

“The assault itself would be categorised as minor.

“You have spent 74 days on remand and, I make it clear, there could be any disposal whatsoever.”

Taylor has been ordered to return to court in the coming weeks.
