Kelburne stars to fly the flag
A number of Kelburne stars of the future have been called up to international duty.
The likes of Logan McClure, Rachel Bain and Finn Halliday have all been called up to the Caledonian Cougars hockey side for their upcoming clashes, starting this afternoon.
The Cougars will compete in England Hockey’s Futures Cup in the U15 and U17 boys’and girls’age groups.
It is the second year running the squads will play at the tournament.
The Futures Cup will be held from today till Saturday at Oaklands College, St Albans.
A Scottish Hockey spokesman explained:“The Cougars made a big impression on the tournament last year, which played a great role in player development.
“The Futures Cup shows the standard it takes to be a top young player in the UK.
“The Futures Cup was created to simulate an international tournament, and provides the players with the opportunity to test themselves against highly-talented regional teams.”
Scottish Hockey’s head of performance Andy Tennant added:“We are delighted to have all four of our international youth squads playing as the Caledonian Cougars in England Hockey’s Futures Cup.
“The high quality of the competition allows our aspiring athletes to benchmark themselves against the best of the UK’s young hockey players – and provides a good number of high quality competitive opportunities in a good performance environment.
“I know our players and coaches are relishing the challenge and the great opportunities for development this type of competition brings.”
