Cancer advice service

-

People living with cancer and their families can get support from a new advice service which opens today,

Ma c m i l l a n Ca n c e r Support is behind the new group which will run out of Johnstone Library.

The service is part of Living Well @ Renfrewshire Libraries, a partnership with Renfrewshire Leisure, which already runs successfully at Ferguslie, Renfrew and Erskine libraries.

Similar to the other drop ins, the Johnstone service is being run by a group of highly- trained volunteers who can provide emotional and practical advice, access to information, or simply a listening ear.

Macmillan’s Head of Services in Scotland, Janice Preston said: “It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of our supporters in Renfrewshire who raise so much money for us that we are able to establish such a vital service.

“Macmillan believes that no-one should face cancer alone and the continued support from people locally will help us to ensure that noone does”.

Renfrewshire Leisure Chief Executive Joyce McKellar added: “Renfrewshire Leisure are happy to partner with Macmillan to provide a much needed service to support people affected by cancer.

“We aim to continuously develop services within our libraries which offer great support to local communities.”
