Paisley continued their winning start to their pre-season schedule with a wellearned victory over Hillhead/Jordanhill at The Anchor.

The Buddies have been in tremendous form over the course of their three matches so far. However, they had to battle both the elements and their opponents on a tricky afternoon at home.

Expectations are on the rise for Paisley after their latest win took them to three out of three in preseason. Paisley have also scored an incredible 158 points and only conceding two tries in the whole pre-season campaign.

The weekend’s clash proved to be their toughest so far, with the hosts having to rely on a resolute defence to see them through to the end.

But in a fine team effort, the tries were shared among Jamie Murchie, Grant Berry and Cameron Cobb.

Murchie also received a yellow card for the team, having repeated infringments. However, the ref’s call appeared to make little difference to the final outcome of the clash, with Paisley scoring their last two tries of the afternoon while down to 14 men. Euan Stuart was on hand to convert two out of the three tries.

The result has been greeted with delight among the Paisley side, with try scorer Grant Berry buzzing for the new season to finally get started.

Berry told Express Sport: “Hills brought a good squad with them and this was the hardest test so far for us.

“The conditions were poor and the rain and wind took its toll on the play.

“The game could have went either way at half time but our defence held strong today and it set us on a good platform to score some great tries and win the game.

“It’s been a great pre-season and the mood in the camp is buoyant as we head into our first competitive game against Lenzie on Saturday.”
