Duo land tough ties in Scottish Cup

Arthurlie face Kello Rovers and Renfrew will take on Troon

- Craig Ritchie

Ar t h u r l i e and Renfrew have both been handed tricky first round draws in the Junior Scottish Cup.

The duo were drawn out of the hat at Hampden, with Arthurlie set to face Kello Rovers away from home, while Renfrew travel to league rivals Troon.

Meanwhile, Johnstone Burgh and Neilston have received byes into the tournament’s next round.

Travelling to Kello will be no easy feat for Chris Mackie’s muchchanged Arthurlie, with the Super First Division side topping the table after just one game. Kello, who play at Nithside Park in Kirkconnel, thumped five past Shettleston on the opening day of the season to get their campaign off to a blistering start.

Meanwhile, Arthurlie were held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Girvan as Michael Daly’s debut goal took them back to Barrhead with a point.

This season marks 20 years since Arthurlie last lifted the old trophy following a famous final win over Pollok at Fir Park. Jimmy McQuade’s side wrote themselves into the history books with a 4-0 win over their arch rivals thanks to goals from Mark McLaughlin, Johnny Millar, Steven Convery and Steven Nugent as they brought the grand old trophy back to Barrhead.

For Renfrew, a trip to Portland Park will see them take on a Troon side still reeling from their relegation from the top flight.

But Colin Clark and Martin Ferry’s side will take heart from their impressive start to the season which saw them defeat Rutherglen Glencairn 3-1 at New Western Park over the weekend.
