Lewis can’t wait to link up with Mallan again

- Craig Ritchie

Lewis Morgan admits he is looking forward to linking up with former St Mirren teammate Stevie Mallan as the duo get set to share the field once again.

The midfield pair were both named in Scot Gemmill’s Scotland under- 21 side for the upcoming clash with The Netherlands at the Paisley 2021 Stadium next month.

Mallan may have left Paisley for Barnsley in the summer, but Morgan insists that his former partner in crime is looking forward to a return trip up the road.

But focusing on himself, the 20- year- old is hoping to further cement his spot in Gemmill’s plans following a man-of-the match debut against Estonia earlier this year.

Morgan said: “I’m delighted with the call-up, it is always good to get international recognition.

“It is always good for a club like St Mirren bringing through youth players, and for the club to be hosting the game – hopefully we get a good turnout.

“And it will be good to meet up with Stevie again.

“I texted him when the squad was announced and we still keep in touch.

“We have been talking about the game and he is looking forward to coming back up.

“I was hoping my performance last time made Scot Gemmill sit up and take notice, so I’m delighted he has given me the chance to go and represent my country again and hopefully produce another good performance.”

Morgan will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as St Mirren welcome league leaders Dundee United to Paisley.

And the winger reckons the fans are in for a treat as the two sides battle it out for the three points.

Following a number of close games between the teams last season, which saw the sides share the last two outings with a win apiece, Jack Ross’ men will be hoping that they can produce another gutsy display against the title favourites.

Morgan added: “These are the games that we are looking forward to – it is arguably a Premiership fixture in some people’s eyes.

“I think we will get a good turnout and it will be a game between two teams who try and play football the right way.

“It will go down as one of Dundee United’s hardest fixtures in the league coming here, and we are hoping that’s the case.

“It will be entertaining and the last time they were here there were five goals, so it was exciting.”
