26.08.2017 A popular Renfrewshire good cause has been named as a finalist for the Charity Event of the Year in the Scottish Events Awards 2017.

The nomination is for the Erskine Motorbike Meet, which took place earlier this year and sees the ex-armed forces support organisation welcome more than 1,000 bikes and more than 4,000 visitors.

The Scottish Event Awards bring together the elite of the Scottish events industry in one room to celebrate and reward their achievements over the past year.

Erskine volunteer Heather Clissett, who takes the lead role in organising the event, said: “The Erskine Motorbike Meet has grown larger than we could ever have hoped.

“We hope all who visit the bike meet know how much their loyalty to, and respect for, Erskine’s veterans means.

“We are so grateful and appreciative to them for never failing to turn out and we hope they realise how much it means to all at Erskine and the respect we have for all our two and three wheeled visitors.”

Erskine says the Motorbike Meet has become a highlight of its year.

It starts with a parade of two and three-wheeled vehicles the Erskine home and features lots of family entertainment, fairground rides, live music, displays, and much more.

Last year, there were a number of firsts, which included veterans taking part in the parade and a boccia bowls match with bikers v eterans.

Erskine says it is also delighted to have been named as finalists for Exhibition of the Year in the Scottish Events Awards for their charity partnership with the Ideal Home Show Scotland 2017.

The charity told the story of the homeward journey from the battlefields to Glasgow through the aptly- named show garden Home to the Dear Green Place, alongside creating the show’s only plant market.

The garden commemorated the vital and solemn work carried out by the Royal Air Force and served as a memorial to Erskine resident, ex- 602 Squadron Corporal Joe Parker, who died earlier this year.

The winners will be announced at the Scottish Events Awards on Wednesday, October 11.
