Scotland call-up for Laura

Kilbarchan athlete Laura Stark has been called up as one of the young hill runners who will represent Scotland at the Junior Home Internatio­nal next month.

The annual event for U17 and U20 athletes will see the Scots compete against hill runners of the same age from England, Wales and Ireland.

And this year scottishat­hletics are hosts with the Cademuir courses at Peebles the venue for the event on Saturday, September 16.

Teams have now been selected and there are a number of athletes winning Scotland vests for the first time in hill running.

The U17 girls team features two sets of twins with the McKennas from Giffnock North joined by first-timers at this level, Nuala and Cliona McCheyne of Inverclyde AC, while Stark will pull on the internatio­nal vest for the nation’s U20 women.

Full squads: U17 Girls: Cliona and Nuala McCheyne (Inverclyde AC), Charlotte and Lynn McKenna (Giffnock North).

U17 Boys: Elliot Duff (Garscube Harriers), Yousuf Khursheed (Gala Harriers), Iain McWhinnie (Fife AC), Robert Sparks (Fife AC).

U20 Women: Anisha Badial (Aberdeen AAC), Lauren Dickson (Lasswade AAC), Laura Stark (Kilbarchan), Grace Whelan (Moray RR).

U20 Men: Rory Abernethy (Ochil HR), Gavin Bryson (Edinburgh AC), Freddie Carcas (Edinburgh AC), George Rees (Fife AC).
