£40m theatre project set to be unveiled
Trust will spell out proposals at public meeting
The group behind ambitious plans to create a new performing arts and film theatre in Paisley will reveal all at the end of next month.
Paisley Community Trust wants to create a £40 million centre in the town and is planning a public unveiling at the Piazza Shopping Centre on Friday, September 29.
The plans, which have been developed by award-winning Scottish architects Stallan Brand, will remain on display until 5pm the following day.
Paisley Community Trust was founded back in 2014 by businessman Gar y Ker r, computer games entrepreneur Andy Campbell and David Wallace, from PACE Youth Theatre.
Chairman Gary Kerr said: “We have a vision for a brand new performing arts and film theatre for the town.
“However, we’re not just building a building, we are creating a new place in the heart of our town.
“We are laying the foundations for a new Cultural and Creative Quarter in Paisley. Creating a vibrant, diverse destination for entertainment, leisure and education and providing a launch pad for stage and screen talent and new creative start-ups. We are delighted and overjoyed with the work Stallan Brand have done.
“They’ve gone above and beyond expectation.
“We are really thankful for everything they have done to take our brief and our feedback and work on it to an extent that we’ve got something we think is absolutely amazing.
“As a trust and as individuals we are really excited to share this with the people of Paisley. Please come along to see our vision and chat to our team about our ambitious, transformational and inspired plans for our town.”
The final plans are expected to include a main theatre and secondary studio theatre, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, dance studios, several unique cinema spaces as well as bar and restaurant facilities. Outside, the plans will include external landscaped public spaces with a range of uses.
The public unveiling featuring architects drawings, a model and vision for the plans will be at 12noon on Friday, September 29. Paisley Community Trust plan to be there on the day to listen to feedback and answer any questions.
