Take up offer of fire check, residents urged
A Paisley councillor is encouraging residents to take up fire safety visits.
SNP councillor for Paisley Northwest, Kenny MacLaren, is welcoming a recent report from The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) highlighting the number of fire safety visits carried out in Renfrewshire between February and March.
The report states that a total of 413 home visits were carried out, 50 were as a result of high-risk referrals from Renfrewshire community planning partners to SFRS.
Another 78 visits were as a result of post domestic incident responses – essentially calling in at sites where there has been some sort of previous call out.
These visits are carried out by operational personnel and the community action team who conduct these sessions jointly with partner agencies when appropriate.
Mr MacLaren said:“The SFRS do a great job in protecting our community and a key role in this are their various fire safety initiatives.
“These visits help to open people’s eyes to the dangers that lurk within the household and workplace.
“Although not included in these figures, the SFRS has been especially busy since the Grenfell Tower disaster, re-assuring residents in high flats on their safety.
“I would encourage all groups and individuals to get involved in the many campaigns on fire safety organised by our local fire and rescue services.”
