Bookbug is the star of parents and tots relaunch
Go along and have fun
Paisley’s STAR Project has just relaunched its parent and toddler group – with a helping hand from kiddies’ favourite Bookbug.
Bookbug is a national programme that encourages parents to share and enjoy stories with their children.
Sessions are held in nurseries, community centres and libraries as part of the Scottish Book Trust’s earlyyears’ programme and help introduce music to young children using simple rhymes, songs and games.
The free, interactive sessions, funded by the Scottish Government, are great fun and are arranged through the Bookbug team.
The STAR Project is an awardwinning community organisation that supports people living in the north end of town.
The Wee Stars group welcomes mums, dads grannies and grandpas with little ones aged from newborn to pre-school age.
Sharon McAulay, project manager at STAR, said: “The Bookbug sessions are part of the toddler group and these are really popular. Bookbug is a fabulous initiative.
“It is great for wee ones, even if they are very young, because it is so musical and colourful.”
Wee Stars is run by the team at the STAR Projects, supported by highlytrained volunteers and also helps families access other types of support they might need.
“It is a very relaxed environment and offers an opportunity for play, with a warm welcome for everyone.
“Parents can enjoy a wee blether and a cuppa and the kids get a snack,” added Sharon.
● Wee Stars meet on a Friday, in Wallace Street, from 10am until noon and you can simply pop along with your child, or call 0141 889 5850 in advance to find out more.
