Renfrew topple United

-

Super-sub Kieron Maxwell was the toast of the town as Renfrew snatched three points away to Cumbernauld United.

Despite getting off to a good start, which saw them race into the lead early doors, it would take former Arthurlie man Maxwell until late on to bag the points for Colin Clark and Martin Ferry’s men.

The victory sees them continue their 100 per cent start to the Super League First Division, following the previous weekend’s win over Rutherglen Glencairn.

Last weekend’s hat-trick hero was again on the scoresheet early doors as Renfrew fired themselves ahead, before notching his second before the half was out.

Paul Murphy managed to peg one back for Cumbernauld before the interval as the hosts looked to worm their way back into the tie, reducing the deficit to ensure the scoreline was 2-1 at the break. Into the second half and the hosts were now looking dominant.

Jamie Kennedy was the man to level the scoring for Cumbernauld, with United looking surefire to come away with all three points as they took a stranglehold of proceedings in the second period.

Clark and Ferry rolled the dice, bringing on Maxwell for summer signing Dom Innes.

And their faith in the youngster was reward as he fired home the unlikely winner.
