Councillor hits out at selfish drivers

-

a raging councillor has hit out at thoughtless drivers who park on the pavement of a Paisley street, blocking prams and wheelchairs.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren, sNP member for Paisley Northwest, says residents in the town’s Marchfield avenue are becoming increasingly frustrated by the dodgy parking.

He said:“Inconsiderate drivers are parking on pavements making it difficult for people with wheelchairs and walking aids to use the pavement.”

Councillor MacLaren believes that the road is being used as a dumping ground by holiday-makers who refuse to pay for parking at glasgow airport.

several constituents who push prams or use wheelchairs have complained about the issue at surgeries in recent months.

Councillor MacLaren:“there is no need for these cars to park on the pavement, it is just the action of inconsiderate selfish drivers who don’t give a damn about pedestrians and those who have mobility aids.

“I’ve contacted both the police and community safety team to see what action can be taken to either fine drivers or move their cars.

“Local residents have claimed that some of the cars are parked for days on end, sometimes for a week or two, and they have seen drivers coming out of cars with suitcases and heading for the airport.

“It seems these drivers are too cheap to use proper parking facilities and don’t care who they inconvenience as long as they get to park without paying for it.”
