Fast-paced Anchors sink Giffnock Men’s 2

-

Anchor HC kicked-off the season with a convincing 3-0 victory away to Giffnock Mens 2’s.

Anchor started the game off at a high tempo and pressed high to keep Giffnock on the back foot for most of the early stages.

The Paisley side had a number of chances to go in front with chances for William Crichton, Robert Boyd and David Stone but the Giffnock defence managed keep the scores level.

Anchor eventually went 1-0 up from the first short corner of the game with an Ally Gray drag flick low into the corner.

For the remainder of the half, Giffnock went on the attack, forcing several short corners and came close to levelling the score but Graham Hope pulled off a fantastic save to keep Anchor 1-0 up.

The second half started with Anchor pressing high again and dominating from the start.

They went 2-0 up with a Chris McArdle strike into the corner and continued to dominate the game.

Giffnock came close with a low shot but was stopped and defended well by the two centre backs David Stone and Scott Neithercut.

Anchor broke after a turn of possession with a good link up between Ally Gray and McArdle in the middle of the pitch leading to Anchors third goal from Greig MacKinnon.

Anchor looked very sharp in their defensive and attacking set up and turned in a strong team performance.

Anchor are now preparing for Clydesdale Mens 4s at On-X, in Linwood, next week.
