Clever kids at Todholm bag the summer reading challenge crown
Todholm Primary retained its title after a brilliant effort in the summer reading challenge.
Pupils took on pals from across Renfrewshire in a competition to read the most books.
Children blew away their rivals, with more than a quarter enjoying six stories during the break.
Headmistress Lynne McGinn says victory last year inspired youngsters to take up reading and bag the crown for a consecutive year.
She said: “Winning last year seemed to be the catalyst for a whole ethos change here.
“Our pupils love reading and they talk about it in such positive terms.
“They love learning about their favourite authors and telling their families about what they’ve been finding out.
“It’s fantastic to win the title again and that’s down to our fantastic teachers and also our parents.
“They’re incredibly active in encouraging the children to read, taking them to the library and even being part of our bedtime story clubs.
“It’s so encouraging to see because a love of reading helps raise literacy standards.
“The earlier they develop a love for reading, the more they learn and, hopefully, create a habit that lasts a lifetime.”
Children who visited their local library to borrow books were given clues to solve a mystery with the Animal Agents.
Entertainer Phil Sherman popped in from the Booster Cushion Theatre Company to reward junior classes with a performance.
Older pupils will be treated to a cinema trip later in the year for helping get their school over the line.
