First win eludes U20s

- Motherwell U20s...................4 St Mirren U20s.......................1

St Mirren Under 20s fell to a crunching defeat as their search for a first league win of the season continues into another week.

The young Buddies, bossed by Allan McManus, headed to Stirling Albion’s Forthbank Stadium looking to get back to winning ways.

The youngsters were supplemented by first-team midfielder Dale Hilson, who continues his return to full fitness.

But the hosts took the lead on 14 minutes when David Turnbull slotted the ball beyond Chris Henry to open the scoring.

However, Saints continued to battle away and soon found themselves back on level terms 24 minutes in when defender Dylan McKendry prodded home for the visitors after the Motherwell defence failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Neither side could force themselves in front before the interval, but Saints full-back Andrew McDonald smacked the post early in the second half.

But it would be the home side that got themselves back in front on 66 minutes as Adam Livingston cut in from the left-hand side to curl past Henry.

And Motherwell killed off the tie five minutes later when Shaun Bowers rose highest to head home Stevie Hammell’s free kick.

To their credit, St Mirren continued to battle away in a bid to try and get themselves back into the match.

Chances came and went but Motherwell would grab a fourth on 83 minutes, with Hammell this time providing for Scott to head home the last goal.

St Mirren U20s: Henry, Morrison, McDonald, Erhahon, McKendry, Miller, Hilson, McBrearty, Jamieson, Glover, O’Keefe.

Subs: Wilson, Morrison, Breadner, Reilly and King.
