Mary’s backing Anas as Labour leader
A Paisley-based MSP has backed Anas Sarwar in the Scottish Labour Party’s leadership contest.
West of Scotland MSP Mary Fee says she believes Mr Sarwar will help defend the closurethreatened children’s ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
She said: “Anas Sarwar has the energy and experience to return Scottish Labour to power in Holyrood.
“He has worked tirelessly to promote Labour values and has a radical vision for Scotland’s future.
“As health spokesperson, Anas has fought to defend the NHS in west of Scotland.
“He has consistently been on the front line opposing the SNP’s plans to close the Children’s Ward 15 at the RAH in Paisley and the downgrading of maternity services at the Inverclyde Royal Hospital.”
Mr Sarwar, who previously worked as a dentist in Paisley, was pleased with the backing.
He said:“I’m delighted to have the support of Mary Fee in this leadership contest.
“Together, we will fight to build a country that fights inequality and fights injustice wherever we see it, putting our Labour values at the heart of Scotland’s future.
“Scotland needs a united Labour Party, ready to form the next Labour government in Holyrood.”
