Sheriff fines banned dad who drove 300 miles to threaten wife Accused convicted of domestic abuse

A dad drove 300 miles to hassle his estranged wife – despite being banned from going anywhere near her.

Adam Palubicki, 41, travelled for more than five hours to turn up outside Katarzyna Groth’s home and told her he had downed pills.

At Paisley Sheriff Court, he admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner by thumping her door.

Prosecutor John Penman told how Palubicki ignored a court order to keep away from her when he set off from Nottingham.

He said: “The accused travelled to the Barrhead area by car and attended at the door of the complainer.

“He shouted and struck the door to get the attention of his wife.

“On becoming aware that her husband was outside, she contacted her daughter for help and called the police.

“The daughter left work immediately and made her way home and police officers attended and, with the assistance of a Polish interpreter, dealt with the matter.

“He claimed to have taken a quantity of painkillers and needed medical attention.”

Palubicki had previously been ordered to keep away from Ms Groth over a separate matter at Nottingham Magistrates Court.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley after sparking the drama in Stewart Street at around 11am on July 15.

The agency worker was released back into police custody after being checked by doctors. Defence lawyer Kevin Brady insisted his client had tried to make contact with his son, 12, who had been whisked away by his mother.

He said: “He attended at the address to try and find out information about his son, Oscar.

“He became aware his wife was in the property and repeatedly banged on the door and shouted, ‘Oscar, Oscar’.

“He left, but saw police arriving and returned. He told them he just wanted to speak to his son.”

Sheriff Ian Duguid warned Palubicki he now has a conviction for domestic abuse.

He said: “You must realise that breaking conditions set by another court is something which is viewed quite seriously.”

Palubicki, of Alnadale Avenue, Nottingham, was fined £135.
