I’ve got a point to prove
Gavin can’t wait for Pars showdown
Gavin Reilly admits he is desperate to down Dunfermline following a disappointing spell at East End Park last season.
Reilly, who yesterday collected his Irn-Bru “Goldenballs” award for his performance in round two of the Irn-Bru Cup. is set to line up against his former teammates
He spent a season with Dunfermline on loan from Hearts, and returns to his former stomping ground with St Mirren this weekend.
The 24-year-old striker could only muster one goal over the course of the season for Allan Johnston’s Pars but his form has changed night and day since making the switch to Paisley in the summer.
Eight goals in 11 games for the Buddies has already cemented his status as a fans’ favourite but he believes he will have a point to prove to the fans of Dunfermline when he takes the field on Saturday.
Reilly said: “It’ll be good to go there and hopefully prove a point. As long as we win the game. I’d be happy with that.
“They’ve had a good start. I think they’ve only lost one game in the league.
“They were 2-0 up on Saturday, so to lose 3-2 must have come as a bit of a shock.
“They’ve got some quality players and they’re a good team.
“I played with a lot of them and they’ll be wary on Saturday.
“I think there’s talk of the crowd being 5- 6,000. They’ve got a tremendous support as it is and the way we’re going we’ll bring through a healthy support of our own.
“It’s got the makings of being a very good game.
“The fans have been tremendous so far. They go all over the country and it’s credit to them.
“We want to give them the three points they deserve.”
Saturday’s clash has already been billed as the game of the weekend, with Dunfermline and the Saints expected to battle it out for the Championship title.
But having already faced, and defeated, the likes of Dundee United and Inverness, Reilly reckons St Mirren are the team to beat.
He added: “We had a very difficult start to the season, so it’s been brilliant to get the points that we have.
“There are no easy games in this league, especially away from home. Everyone’s capable of beating everyone.
“But it’s good to lay down a marker early on and we want to build on that.
“We’ve got a confident, talented bunch here.
“We know it’s going to be a long, hard season but the way we’ve gone about our business, it can’t do anything but help build our confidence.
“We’ll take it game by game and see where it takes us.”
