Tournament is a fitting tribute to Tommy
Cancer charity bosses received a massive boost – thanks to the generosity of staff and customers at Paisley’s B&Q store.
Pancreatic Cancer Scotland received more than £13,000 following the annual Tommy Clancy Memorial Football Tournament, which took place at the Powerleague sports facility in Glasgow.
The sporting fundraiser took place in memory of Tommy, a well-loved manager of the Paisley DIY store, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in January 2015.
The event marked three years to the day when Tommy was handed the diagnosis of the disease.
And to remember his passing, Tommy’s family and his friend and unit manager of B&Q Parkhead, Bob Harvey, have held the football competition every year.
Paisley B&Q worker Danny McMillan, who played football for the local entrants, said:“Tommy was the first manager of B&Q Paisley and we were proud to have played at the tournament in his memory.
“It involved a lot teams from different stores across the west of Scotland.
“Paisley lost our first game but won the next two matches.
“I would like to offer special thanks to Paisley colleague Ewan McCall for organising our team.”
Tommy’s widow Alison added:“It’s a great way of keeping Tommy’s memory alive.
“He worked for B&Q for 34 years and we, as a family, are so grateful for everything that Bob has done.”
Pancreatic Cancer Scotland’s development manager Fiona Brown added:“This was an incredible team effort demonstrating the fantastic legacy that’s been created in Tommy’s memory.”
