Do better, Burgh told

- Junior football

Johnstone Burgh boss Colin Smith has called on his side to go out and prove a point when they return to action this afternoon.

Burgh travel to Millburn Park to take on Vale of Leven, following the disappointment of defeat to Bellshill last time out.

Smith admitted he felt let down by the display last weekend, insisting he expects a vast improvement this time around.

Smith told Express Sport: “The boys don’t only have something to prove to me, they have something to prove to themselves as well.

“Vale of Leven are a good side this season and they have already shown that against us in the Sectional League Cup.

“So far, we have been very inconsistent, but hopefully this is the weekend we can turn that around.”

Burgh are without a number of players for today’s clash. Paul Sweenie, Greg Barr and Fraser Wilson are unavailable, while Robbie Kelly, John Yule and Scott Kirrin have been ruled out through injury.

Elsewhere, Renfrew and Arthurlie are in Scottish Cup first round action as the competition kicks-off.

Both sides are on the road as Renfrew travel to Troon. Chris Mackie’s Arthurlie face a lengthy away trip to Kello.

And, rounding off the fixtures, Neilston are in league action when they welcome Benburb to the Brig O’Lea. (Adjacent to Kwik Save car park, Paisley Road West)
