UWS makes top 100 uni list
Paisley’s university is celebrating climbing into the top 100 of The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide for the first time.
The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is placed 100 in the latest edition of the league table — an increase of six places from last year.
The institution is also ranked in the top three of Scottish universities for teaching excellence.
Bosses say UWS delivers outstanding teaching for its students and places significant importance on this, ensuring that it continues to be one of its key strengths.
Professor Craig Mahoney, principal and vice-chancellor of UWS, said: “This is fantastic news and is yet another example of the significant progress we are making and of the hard work and commitment of colleagues across UWS.
“Our strong ranking for teaching excellence is particularly pleasing and is testament to our strong commitment to providing student-centred, personalised and distinctive learning and teaching experiences underpinned by professionally relevant research, knowledge exchange and enterprise.”
The placing in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 follows the publication earlier this month of the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings, which saw UWS climb to the overall category of 501-600 out of the 1,100- plus institutions assessed by the Times.
This means that UWS is officially recognised as being in the top three per cent of universities worldwide.
Earlier in the year, the university was also ranked in the world’s top 200 universities under 50 years of age in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2017.
