Road chaos as police chase car Sparks flew as vehicle was left with only three tyres

- David Campbell

Two yobs left a trail of destruction through Paisley town centre as they fled cops in a car with just three tyres.

The louts crashed into barriers and left sparks flying as they led cops on a chase from Storie Street all the way to Stanley Reservoir.

Officers pursued the reckless pair through the town at around 9.40pm on Monday night before they dumped the car and legged it on foot.

The car ploughed through Storie Street, George Street and Causeyside Street heading south out of the town towards Stanely Reservoir.

As the high-speed chase continued, the car smashed into a barrier, and lost a tyre. But the maniac driver continued to flee with sparks flying and police cars close behind.

They managed to get all the way to Stanely Reservoir where they abandoned the badly-damaged car and took off on foot with officers hot on their heels.

It is believed the pair then kicked off and resisted arrest when cops caught up with them.

Despite being caught, they continued to struggle with officers before being brought under control.

Inspector Tracy Harkins explained how the chase unfolded, describing the destruction left by the driver and his sidekick as they made off from officers.

Inspector Harkins, who is based in Paisley, said: “Officers pursued the vehicle for some considerable distance through Paisley town centre towards Stanely Reservoir.

“The car collided with a barrier and sparks were flying from the exposed wheel of the car during the pursuit.

“They abandoned the car at Stanely Reservoir and officers gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspects.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said two men, aged 21 and 16, were due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with an alleged assault and motoring offences.
