- Craig Ritchie

Kelburne Hockey Club were well represented as Team West took silver at the Notts Sport Inter District over the weekend.

The Paisley contingent of Cameron McIntrye, Fionn Wilson, Niall Taylor and Logan McClure were all called up to represent the district at the competition which was hosted at Glasgow National Hockey Centre, at Glasgow Green.

The tournament turned out to be a hard- fought affair for all side’s involved, with Team West 16s, winning three out of their four clashes, before drawing with overall winners, East Region.

The competition was contested over a round robin format, with Team West taking silver having narrowly missed out on top spot on goal difference.

A Kelburne spokesman said: “Very well played to our young Kelburne under- 16s stars, the four amigos, for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament. “We’re all very proud.” West faced East in their opening game of the competition, with West taking the lead through Gavin MacKenzie before Joe Inglis levelled the scores up.

But two goals in the second half from either side ensured that it was a share of the spoils.

And in their second game of the day, West took on Highland, where they dominated to take a final scoreline of 9-0.

On the second day of action West started the afternoon with a win over North to get Sunday started in fine fashion.

Ben Carroll struck the opener for the side after just eight minutes, before Matthew O’Toole double the West’s advantage as he converted a penalty corner to take the score to 2-0.

Louis Gardner made it 3- 0 soon after before Euan Menzies struck to put the game beyond any doubt.

And West clinched the second spot with a thrilling 8-0 win over Midland. And Kelburne got in on the scoring action in the final day of play as Niall Taylor added to a hat- trick from Euan Menzies, a double from Gardiner, and goals from MacKenzie and Matthew O’Toole.
