All set for a Silver Sunday

-

Residents are welcoming pals to their care home for a day of fun and games.

Braemount Care Home is hosting a special Silver Sunday fundraiser with food, entertainment and bingo.

Head chef Derrick Smartt is busy in the kitchen whipping up baked treats to share over tea and coffee.

Stevie Drennan, activities coordinator at the Bupa centre in Paisley’s Donaldswood Road, wants to forge strong links with neighbours.

He said: “We are always keen to get the local community involved in the different events and activities we have going on at the home.

“The residents always enjoy socialising with the other Paisley locals and sharing stories.

“And the cake stalls are always a real hit as everyone gets to have a sweet treat and a nice cuppa.

“This the first time we are holding the Silver Sunday event and everyone in the home is really looking forward to it.

“It’s a great chance to meet with other members of the local community, whether they’re familiar faces or new friends.

“I’d encourage everyone to come along – the more the merrier.”

Silver Sunday is a UK- wide scheme designed to celebrate older people and the value they bring to a community.

It promotes an open- door policy in the hope events will help combat loneliness and social isolation among residents and in the community.

More than 70 care homes across the country are holding a special party to mark the occasion.

Braemount offers nursing care and support for dementia patients and those with specialist needs, such as those living with Parkinson’s disease, at four separate houses.

The event on Sunday runs from 2pm until 4pm on a drop-in basis.
