Ruari sets squad on way to a win

Bishopton prove far too strong for Lanark

- Craig Ritchie

Bishopton made it four wins from four with a comprehensive victory over Lanark at the weekend.

The Holmpark side started the game on the front foot and found themselves ahead within the opening passage of play.

Collecting a high ball that was sent towards the Bishopton end of the pitch, fullback Peter Raining moved straight into attack.

Making his way to the opposition 22, he was able to pass to Ruari Taylor who ran in to score the opening try of the afternoon.

The conversion was added with ease to make it 7-0 to Bishopton.

Following there start Bishopton were again able to gain the scrum advantage just inside the Lanark half.

Taylor managed to gain a lineout from the resulting play, which proved crucial as Bishopton again got on the board.

Bishopton were able to steal the Lanark put-in from the lineout as Ross McGowan made a dart for the corner and crossed the line in celebration.

However, the referee had other ideas and pulled the play back and awarded a no-try.

Bishopton chose to retake the line-out that had been working so well for them.

In a matter of two passes from the line-out the ball was met by Ruaridh Catto, who was able power through the defence by picking a clean line to run at and was able to slide in for the try, making it 12-0.

Lanark were struggling to even get a foothold, with Bishopton quickly tagging on another try, with Catto again the man of the moment as he danced his way around the entire Lanark midfield before walking under the post for the try.

Bishopton came out the traps furiously in the second half after spending the time before the break with their backs against the wall.

Taking the ball on a flurry of attacks down the right wing before running out of room, McGowan collected the ball.

And this time there was no doubt about his try as, after he was able to hand off his opposite number, the path was clear for him to side under the posts for the bonus try.

Catto added another conversion to take the score to 26-0.

Lock Kyle Haldane then made it 33-0 with a try of his own before prop Alistair Dock crashed over the line from close range to open his account for the season, with the score now sitting at 38-0.

From there on Bishopton went to the bench to bring on the fresh legs to stretch the tired Lanark defence.

And with the change came a period of settling in that Lanark looked to take advantage of.

But from a Lanark line- out, Bishopton were again pushed deep by a long defensive kick that was caught by vice captain Stephen Hogan who was making his first appearance of the season, having only gotten off the plane from Thailand three hours beforehand.

However, he showed no signs of jet lag as he was able to make it to within five metres of the half way line and sucked in two defenders before being able to offload the ball to Iain Kerr, who managed to sprint clear for his first try for the club.
