Ross: Kyle’s on his way back

Gaffer delighted with recovery from injury

St Mirren boss Jack Ross hopes Kyle Magennis will get a full week of training under his belt next week.

The midfielder, who has been a revelation since breaking into the first team last season, has been missing since hobbling off in the side’s friendly clash with Dundee back in July.

The 19-year-old suffered medial ligament damage in the clash with Neil McCann’s side, leaving him unavailable for selection throughout the Betfred Cup group stages and the start of the Championship.

But Ross is hopeful that he will return to the fold soon.

Ross told Express Sport: “Kyle was always scheduled to be out for a nine to 12-week period from the initial injury.

“I think he is around the 11-week period now.

“There had been some suggestion that he could have been back between six to nine weeks, so that had moved expectations along for both myself and Kyle.

“But if he can get back within that nine to 12-week period then it is simply what we originally expected.

“We knew that we would have to cope without him throughout that period, which is what we have managed to do.

“But we don’t under estimate how important he is to us and he will help us when he does come back.

“All being well he will be back in full training and have a week of that under his belt next week.

“I’m hopeful that Kyle will perhaps begin full training soon.

“That would be an enormous boost for us.”

St Mirren, meanwhile, are also set to welcome back Gregor Buchanan this weekend, with the defender having served his one- match suspension following his sendingoff against Dunfermline a fortnight ago.

Ross also provided updates on the rest of the side’s injury list ahead of the game with Brechin City this Saturday.

He added: “Obviously, Josh Todd will come out the squad and is set to have surgery on Monday on his shoulder.

“Apart from that, we are just as we have been.

“Kyle will still be missing and Gary MacKenzie will be unavailable for selection as well.

“The good news is Harry Davis is getting closer to returning to full training and he is really coming on well, which is fantastic for both him and us.

“Gregor will be back from suspension and played for the under-20 side during the week to give him some game time.

“But Adam Eckersley is still out as his suspension was a two-match ban.”
