Rampant Talbot thrash Arthurlie

- Arthurlie.............0 Auchinleck T.......5

Arthurlie were on the receiving end of a drubbing as rampant Auchinleck Talbot proved a point at Dunterlie.

The all-conquering Ayrshire side had come in for criticism in recent weeks following a disappointing run of results. The side’s board even resorted to issuing a statement backing legendary boss Tommy Sloan prior to the clash in Barrhead.

And it appeared to do the trick, with Arthurlie unable to get near Sloan’s men for the majority of the match as they returned to Auchinleck with the points.

Talbot were dominant throughout and found themselves ahead thanks to Jamie Glasgow’s drive from the edge of the box. The striker brought the ball in close before firing a low drive which seemed to catch out keeper Grant Hay before nestling in the bottom corner.

The visitors doubled their lead 10 minutes before the interval, with Arthurlie failing to clear their lines from a corner on multiple occasions.

Having only partly got the ball clear from the original corner, the ball eventually fell to Talbot captain Gordon Pope at the far post and he was on hand to provide a fantastic curling strike on the angle beyond Hay.

Into the second half and the visitors continued to dominate. But it would be from another corner kick that Talbot extended their lead.

Again the Arthurlie defence failed to clear their lines and Glasgow was in the right place at the right time to fire home his side’s third from close range with a fine drive into the top corner.

Graham Wilson then made it 4-0 just before the hour mark, heading across the face of goal and into the bottom corner following some neat build up play down the right flank.

And Calvin Kemp rounded off the scoring five minutes from time with a fortuitous effort that appeared more like a cross than a shot.

Arthurlie: Hay, Girvan, Wilson, Tart, Spence, McKenzie, McAleenan, Weir, Craig, Chisholm, Wyper.

Subs: Nugent, Mackie, Gabir and Graham.
