Boss wants to go one better in cup this year

-

St Mirren boss Jack Ross insists he is on the hunt for cup success having fallen at the final hurdle last season.

The side’s Irn- Bru Cup run last campaign acted as a catalyst for their eventual survival in the league, something not lost on Ross.

And he admits that he views the competition slightly differently as the Buddies continue to challenge at the top end of the Championship table.

He said: “I think last year it helped us in our league form.

“Things are very different this year in terms of where we find ourselves in the league and the way we have been playing.

“But don’t get me wrong, it is still a competition that we want to do well in.”

Saints will be without the likes of Lewis Morgan and Liam Smith this Saturday when Raith come to town following their Scotland callups.

But Ross says their absence shows that things are going right for the Paisley club.

He added: “Both of them being away is part of what happens when you are successful.

“A number of teams are in the same boat. Dunfermline will be the same as they have Ryan Williamson away who has been a big player for them this season.

“It is a credit both Lewis and Liam that they are in the side in the first place and we wish them well.”
