- Colette Crampsey

Youngsters at a Paisley nursery are soccer stars after learning new skills at a football camp.

The little ones at Rainbow Nursery, in Shortroods Road, are pros on the pitch now that they’ve taken part in a sports project set up by Paisley North Community Council.

Community coach, Stewart McBean, has been introducing the children to the sport, teaching them ball skills and getting them working together in teams.

The Football Skills Challenge Scheme was arranged through Paisley North Community Council, thanks to a grant from The Big Lottery Fund.

It’s the second year that the eight week project has taken place.

Community councillor Mike Dillon said: “We tried out this project last year to incredible success and this year we have seen the same positive results.

“Kids who were shy and reserved changed through it, they became more confident, were interacting with other children and making bonds – it’s lovely to see.”

And the parents were delighted with the football camps too, which gave their kids the chance to learn a sport, make friends and stay active.

Mike explained: “I’ve had great feedback from parents who have told me they are amazed at how their children have reacted to the camps and how much they have looked forward to them.”

The kids involved were aged from three to five and were awarded a Football Skills Challenge Scheme certificate by Mike and Stewart.

Mike congratulated the youngsters on their fantastic achievement.

He added: “It was a fantastic day, the kids were thrilled with their certificates. They did a brilliant job.” CALL FOR MORE 0903 658 2009 SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 23 CALL FOR MORE 0903 658 2010 OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22 CALL FOR MORE 0903 658 2011 NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 21
