Help light up a life

-

You can get involved now with Accord Hospice’s annual Light Up A Life campaign.

Marianne Smith, 49, has taken part every year since she lost her 47- year- old husband Steven to bowel cancer in 2010.

The event allows families to sponsor a star on the hospice Christmas tree in memory of a loved one.

The tree is illuminated during a memorial ceremony in December.

Mum- of- two Marianne says lighting a star in Steven’s memory has helped her daughter Jenna, 18, and son Liam, 16, stay strong.

She said: “Christmas is a special time of the year for families.

“Lighting a star for Steven helps us keep his memory alive.

Steven was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2008 at the age of 45.

He had chemotherapy at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, in Glasgow, but, when the disease spread to his stomach, doctors at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital told Marianne there was nothing they could do.

Steven, from Balloch, visited the Paisley hospice with Marianne every week for support and counselling.

Light up a Life takes place on Friday, December 8 at 6.30pm.
