Curtain is going up on Phoenix’s 100th show Carol can’t wait for showtime
Rehearsals are well underway for the 100th production staged by Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group.
Rapunzel and the Tale of Rumpelstiltskin is on at Johnstone Town Hall from November 25 until December 2 and is being directed by Carol McLaughlin.
Carol has been a member of the popular theatre group for almost 30 years and is relishing the chance to direct the landmark show.
She said: “I first got involved in the society when a friend asked me to go along to support her and I ended up auditioning too. I have been performing ever since for nearly 30 years.
“I have held various positions over the years – committee member, secretary for 14 years, president, concert party director and resident panto director. I was recently made a Life Member of the society in recognition of my work throughout the years.
“I personally find most satisfying seeing audience members, especially the children, believing the story and the magic of pantomime and most importantly having fun.
“I love everything about working as director from making sure everything runs to schedule to working with sound and lighting, props, costumes, make-up and back stage crews to see that my vision comes to life.”
Johnstone Phoenix Theat re Group was founded by the late Tom Carmichael in 1963. Members put on two productions each year – a musical in spring and family pantomime at Christmas.
In 1 9 9 3 , Tom Carmichael’s daughter Ma r g a re t founded Johnstone Phoenix Youth Theatre.
Carol added: “Our club offers members the chance to act, sing and dance as well as socialise throughout the year.
“As well as presenting traditional musicals we have ventured into staging more challenging shows such as Little Shop of Horrors, Singin’ in the Rain, Copacabana and will stage The Full Monty in April next year.
“The society will be celebrating its 55th year next year and we intend to hold a dinner for members to mark the occasion.
“Rehearsals for the upcoming show are well underway with an excellent cast.”
