A right royal day for the Boys’ Brigade
Members receive Queen’s Award
Members of Paisley and District Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade enjoyed a civic reception as they were awarded their Queen’s Badges.
Provost Lorraine Cameron hosted the event in Paisley Abbey and handed out the badges, the highest award that can be given to members of the BB.
Twenty senior members of the BB received the Queen’s Badge and many were present at the service.
Provost Cameron said: “I want to congratulate you on your achievement and I am proud and privileged to present these awards, the Queen’s Badge being the highest award that can be gained by members of the Boys’ Brigade.
“I also recognise the support and encouragement of your parents, and the dedication and hard work of your officers and leaders.”
After outlining what he had to undertake to achieve the Queen’s Badge, including service in the community, Liam Oldrey from 1st Erskine Company said: “I would like, on behalf of all the young men present, to thank Provost Cameron, our officers and our parents for their help and encouragement, and the Ambassadors for their support.”
Battalion president Bi l l Keddie thanked Provost Cameron for her kind remarks and Renfrewshire Council for giving the Civic Reception, encouragement and support for the work of the Boys’ Brigade.
He also took the opportunity to thank the Battalion Ambassadors who support the work of the Brigade in many ways and the Rev Gordon Armstrong, Battalion Chaplain for conducting devotions.
A spokesman for the Battalion said: “Since the 1950s we have been privileged to receive a Civic Reception each year to recognise not only what Queen’s Men have achieved but it also gives encouragement to officers and young men to continue to carry out this important work within the community.”
