Woman hit her girlfriend after all-night booze session Police called to Paisley flat around 5am

- David Campbell

18.10.2017 A drunken row left a woman with a burst lip after she was punched in the face by her girlfriend, a court has heard.

Lor raine McNamara and Jacqueline McParland had been boozing all night long between September 16 and 17 at a flat in Paisley’s Blackstoun Oval.

The town’s sheriff court heard how things turned sour between them around 5am, and after they began to argue McNamara lashed out following a short verbal outburst.

Ms McParland’s bottom lip burst open due to the force of the blow and police were summoned to the scene.

When officers questioned the 45-year-old she held her hands up and confessed: “Aye, I hit her. It was me,” and was arrested.

During the subsequent police interview she appeared repentant for her actions, telling officers:“I shouldn’t have done it.”

The court was told that her victim did not need any medical attention to the injury she suffered.

When McNamara appeared in the dock, she pleaded guilty to committing the assault and injuring her partner.

Defence agent Alastair Gray said that his client did not have her troubles to seek.

She had experienced a troubled upbringing that led her to drug and alcohol abuse which were underlying features of previous offending which in the past had resulted in terms of imprisonment.

She had been trying to break the cycle and was actively seeking help and guidance.

“She is genuinely remorseful and regrets this behaviour,” added the lawyer.

Sheriff Tom McCartney said that despite her record, having read the contents of background reports and considered submissions made on her behalf that he would not send her back to jail.

He made McNamara, of Dalskeith Crescent, Paisley, the subject of a 12-month Community Payback Order requiring her to accept supervision and attend for any alcohol and drug counselling felt necessary.
