We can make this defeat work for us

-

Paisley RFC veteran Michael Somerville insists that the Buddies can use the weekend defeat to Cumnock to their advantage for the season ahead.

Somerville was in action as his side were edged out at The Anchor at the weekend in what was their first defeat on home soil for over a year.

But instead of being down on their luck, Somerville reckons that Paisley must use the loss to their advantage as they look to return to form in a bid to dislodge Cumnock from the top of the table in the coming weeks.

Somerville told Express Sport:“It was a tough defeat to take.

“All credit goes to Cumnock for taking the win, but we really have to ask ourselves a lot of questions.

“The loss could be the best thing that has happened to us and give us the wake-up call we needed.”

Somerville believes that Paisley still have what it takes to end the season with the title in the bag, having made a strong start to the campaign.

Having bagged another bonus point despite their eventual defeat, Paisley are in good shape.

And Somerville is adamant that there is still a long way to go before any silverware is decided.

He said:“It’s only October and there is a long, long way to go before the league title is wrapped up.

“I think we will still do it, but we are going to have to dig deep in training and get back out against Uddingston next week and put a better performance in.

“We got the losing bonus from the game so at least we got another point on the board, which might be crucial later on in the season.”
