Tyre-fitter peddled powder to repay his own drug debt

- David Campbell

Cops uncovered more than £14,000 worth of cocaine when they raided the flat of a Paisley drug dealer.

Tyre-fitter William Jamieson, 27, was busted after cops turned over his Love Street pad and recovered a haul of class A drugs in the kitchen.

He appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Fiscal depute Claire Nicholls told the court that cops targeted the Love Street flat and uncovered the substantial haul on March 21.

She said: “Officers forced entry to the property. No- one was within. A search was then carried out. A blue polythene bag containing white powder was found in the top left drawer beside the cooker in the kitchen.

“The bag contained 71.55 grams of cocaine with a purity of 79 per cent, with a value of up to £14,280.

“The accused’s DNA was found on the knot of the bag. A further poly bag containing white powder was found, which weighed 8.18 grams, with a value of £320.

“In addition, there was a set of working digital scales with a white residue on the surface. The powder was cocaine.

“A notepad with writing on it was found. An apparent ‘tick list’.”

The court heard that £230 in cash was also found in the flat.

Jamieson was traced by police later that night and detained.

His defence agent, Rhona Lynch, told the court that dadof-one Jamieson had turned to dealing drugs when he fell into debt after developing his own habit.

She explained that he was engaging with Renfrewshire Drug Services to try and tackle his ongoing issues.

Sheriff David Pender said: “This is a very serious offence. I will defer adjourn sentencing for the purposes of obtaining a criminal justice social work report.”

Jamieson, who has since moved to Shortroods Road, Paisley, will return to court on November 16 to learn his fate.
