semi-finals.

The third of the quarter finals, played in Gleniffer Hotel, was between St Peter’s and Hagg Bar A in a replay of last year’s final and it was the defending champions from Johnstone who struck first through Evander Stevenson, before Simon Pugh and then Andrew Callary put St Peter’s into a 2-1 lead.

Richie Baillie then made the scores level at 2-2, before George Dempsey and Ian Thomson put Hagg Bar A on the brink of finals night. St Peter’s had other ideas, though, and won the first of the doubles to make the score 4-3, before Mick Malone and John Murdoch settled the match for the Hagg Team as they ran out 5-3 winners.

The last of the quarter-finals saw two Second Division teams on the same points total, and only separated by leg difference, face each other as Kelburne Cricket Club hosted the match between Inkerman BC and Court Bar B.

It was Court Bar B who notched up the first score as Joe Mitchell gave them the early lead, before Inkerman’s Don Alexander evened the score at 1-1.

It was Kellyann McKinnon who re-established the lead for Court Bar B and then George Downie for Inkerman evened the match up at 2-2. Ryan McGregor and then Danny Brown also won for Inkerman to put them in a commanding 4- 2 lead as the singles games finished.

Into the doubles and it was Court Bar B who were resurgent as they rattled up the first two games with scores of 2- 1 in both. With the score now at 4-4, it would come down to the last doubles match and this finished 2-1 as well, with the victory going to Court Bar B.

The victory will give the newcomers their first taste of finals night as they now face Hagg Bar A.

There were seven maximums scored in the four matches this week, with Burgh Bar’s Paul Hanvidge and Railway Inn’s Robert Povah hitting two each.

The fastest games of the night also came from Povah as he was joined by Andrew Callary in hitting a 14-dart leg. The highest finish of the evening came from Court Bar B player Steve Tepper as he checked out on 120.

Next week sees a return to league action, with the pick of the games in the First Division being the match- up between unbeaten Pickwicks and high-flying Railway Inn. In the second division, the tastiest tie looks to be the match between Inkerman BC and The Kelburn, who are level in fifth place.
